Not only can telematics be used to monitor the whereabouts of
your
vehicle and driving habits of your operators, but cold store freight vehicles
used to deliver fresh or frozen foods are now incorporating
telematics to gather data on the temperature inside the cargo body,
both to trigger alarms and record an audit trail for business purposes.
An increasingly sophisticated array of sensors are being used to ensure
that temperature throughout the cargo remains within food-safety
parameters. T Comm Tracking & Tracing, a vehicle tracking system tailored for trailers, is
now being supplied and installed by Serco. The system, which is simple
to operate, has wireless loose sensors and uses a web application. This means that an operator can manage company property and goods with the
least inconvenience. It is possible to link the system to temperature recorders so that the thermostat settings and the operating hours of the
cooling unit can be monitored.
